International Partnership For Advancing Character Education

Hope Institute President, Liz Huntley, with Jubilee Centre Director, Professor Tom Harrison

The Hope Institute began the year in January as a participant in the Jubilee Centre Annual Convening held at Oxford University. The Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues at the University of Birmingham in England is a leader of character education policy and practice in the United Kingdom and internationally. The Jubilee Centre works with various audiences including schools, teachers, young people, parents, policy makers and fellow researchers to advance the understanding and application of character education.

The Hope Institute is proud to be among more than thirty Jubilee Centre partners from around the world committed to cultivating the broad range of character virtues essential for individuals and societies to flourish. Hope Institute President Liz Huntley represented the organization at this year’s convening, engaging with fellow partners and contributing to discussions on advancing character education internationally.

This year’s convening centered on the Jubilee Centre’s Framework for Character Education in Schools, particularly the theme “Character Caught, Taught, and Sought.” This framework highlights that character virtues are developed in three interconnected ways:

  • Caught through a positive school culture, strong relationships, and a clear ethos

  • Taught through curriculum, instructional strategies, and intentional learning experiences

  • Sought through meaningful opportunities and experiences both within and beyond the classroom

Conversations led to new opportunities for collaboration in advancing character education. Partners explored innovative strategies, shared best practices, and identified ways to combine resources to better serve students and communities. The gathering reflected a shared enthusiasm and deep commitment to nurturing character development in young people.

The Hope Institute’s official partnership with the Jubilee Centre reinforces a shared commitment to advancing impactful, sustainable programs that foster positive character development.
